The model Research Campus conforms to the German funding initiative “Forschungscampus – öffentlich-private Partnerschaft für Innovationen”. It is set up by the Federal Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF). With this funding initiative, the BMBF supports universities and companies, which are working collaboratively on complex areas of research on a long-term basis. It is of vital importance that those areas possess high innovative potential and societal relevance. FEN Research Campus is one of nine funded campuses in Germany.
Four connected projects are funded with ten million Euros by the BMBF for an initial time period of five years. After the successful completion of the current phase, there is an outlook of another twenty million Euros from the Ministry to extend research in following phases.
