Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programm (UROP)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) of the RWTH Aachen University offers Bachelor students three possibilities. In the UROP database all current projects of Forschungscampus FEN are advertised.

This program gives RWTH students the opportunity to be part of the FEN research team. The young academics work with a practical orientation in the projects of the Forschungscampus FEN and thereby they broaden their individual and professional knowledge. There are no specific periods in the year for UROP projects. In general, students have the choice to participate in RWTH UROP projects both, during the semester or in the lecture-free period. They last between one and six months.
This program allows RWTH students to conduct research projects at high-profile universities and research institutions in the US and Canada. Projects should last at least two months, and can be conducted during the semester or in the lecture-free period. There are 15 scholarships per year for UROP Abroad projects. The monthly stipend is 600 Euros per month for a maximum project duration of six months.
This program is targeted at students from recognized North American universities who want to come to Germany for a ten-week period to conduct a research project at the Forschungscampus FEN. The program takes place annually at RWTH Aachen University in the calendar weeks 21 to 30 (German numbering). Furthermore, the participants will receive a German language course and further insight into the German culture.

International Energy Cooperation Programm (IECP)

In addition to the UROP programs FEN Research Campus participates in an international exchange program, the International Energy Cooperation Program (IECP). Eleven international universities with a focus on energy, such as the University of Alberta in Canada, are participating in it. The IECP is provided for the period of a project and not for a Bachelor/Master Thesis. Interested students get all information concerning the application procedure on the link above.

Progress Report IECP Program

“My research stay within the scope of the IECP program at the University of Edmonton in Canada was a great experience. For a period of three months, I was a full member of a high-class research team and I have learned more than ever before in such a short time. The combination of theoretical research and practical work on my research project was very varied. Furthermore, the research infrastructure at the University of Alberta is at an outstanding international level.

I also enjoyed Edmonton’s life. The location of the city right next to the national parks in the Rocky Mountains was a unique possibility for me to get to know the spectacular landscapes of Canada.

The organization of the exchange program worked without any problems. Immediately after my commitment, I got a manual for interns with many helpful tips for my further preparations, for example the procedure of the work permit.  Upon arriving at the airport, I was warmly welcomed by the students of the University of Alberta.  Also the “get-to-know program“ at the beginning of the semester, which included barbecues on the Campus, made me feel comfortable and welcome right from the beginning.”
